August brought some change for us. We've been looking for a house on a couple acres for the past year or two and while we were seriously considering one close by, another one popped up on our radar. It's a 1987 ranch house on 2.25 acres. Everything about it just seemed to fit. The land is amazingly usable and the house is in great shape! A few days after looking at it and thinking about it, we got a call that there was another couple interested in it and they had submitted an offer. Well, we also submitted an offer and ours was chosen, so we were officially going to move! That meant we had to sell our current house! We spent lots of time packing stuff up and getting the house ready to go on the market. Within a week or so, it was listed and the showings started. We had really good activity, but no offers. We were starting to worry, but knew we'd be ok. With a late closing date on the new house, we had some time. Still no offer after 2 mos. We went to the closing on the new house and that same day we received an offer on the old house! After negotiating for awhile, we came to an agreement. Since we had the contract, we started moving all our stuff as quickly as possible. My parents came up and were a huge help! We pretty much moved the entire house in a weekend with 2 pickups and a trailer borrowed from a friend. In less than a month, we closed on the old house and started plans for the new house. Being a 1987 house, there are a few things that are a bit outdated. The kitchen has white tile countertops, the windows are old wood framed windows, so we'll be slowly making changes. One of the best parts about the house is the large, fully-fenced yard! There was already a nice fence in place and it's a great dog fence! The house sits on the front corner of the lot, so there is a lot of usable land. We had half of my agility equipment set-up before we even started moving anything else! We'll eventually have to work on the agility area surface, but it's soooo nice to be able to just go out back and train my dogs. :) Here is a picture of the agility field.
While moving into the new house meant we had to sacrafice some time in the mountains, I still managed to get the pups to a couple agility trials. We went to the DAPPR NADAC trial in Black Forest. This was Mariah's first time running as a skilled vet at 8". She didn't seem to be much faster at first, but by the end of the weekend I could tell she was enjoying the lower height. We might as well take it easier on her now that she's 10! Mariah even surprised me and picked up 2 chances Q's! We always have to work so hard for those, so to get 2 in one weekend was great! Brisco had some nice runs as well including some bonus line Q's. I decided to try a few of the lines to get warmed up for Silver Stakes at championships.
The next weekend we went up to Laramie for the FRAC USDAA trial. This is a fun one-ring trial and Mariah only needed one Pairs Q for her APD! Of course Pairs was the last run on Sunday... I ran her in a couple other things and she finished off her PIII Tournament Master title. On Sunday we paired with Jan & Alley and Alley was a bit of a goof in the weaves, but we still managed to qualify and finally earned that last hard-to-get PIII relay Q! There aren't a lot of small dogs in PIII, so getting 5 different Q's was hard! Now Mariah has earned championship titles in NADAC, ASCA and USDAA! Brisco had some really nice runs over the weekend as well with a bar or two here and there. He did miss a lot of A-frame contacts, so we'll be working on that before NADAC champs in Sept.
So in a nutshell, that's August. Now I can start working on the September recap now that it's almost October!
