We spent March 27-28 up in Loveland at the RMF Rumrunners Rondezvous flyball tournament. This was their first frills tournament and they went above and beyond with decorations everywhere, great giggling skull toys for prizes and other fun things. They had a teeter that was set up as "walking the plank" and also had special prizes for various categories including Anchor Dog, Scurvy Award, First Mate, Shark Bait, etc. It was up to the competitors to nominate dogs for the awards. Mariah was nominated for "Shark Bait" and she won!
Onto the actual racing... Since Brisco is still out on injury leave, we ran Bogie-Lexi-Mariah-Calvin. We ran nice and clean on Sat. and ended the day in 1st place and picked up 600 NAFA points. On Sunday we had a few more handler mistakes (early passes) which dropped us out of 1st place. We still did ok and finished 2nd with 530 or so NAFA points. All the dogs ran well and Mariah is doing great with Calvin passing her. Mariah has close to 46,000 pts and is holding her position as the #6 mini aussie in NAFA (~1000 pts out of 5th).
Our next tournament isn't until May, so we have some time to play with our new flyball box and work on Mariah's turn! One of these days I'm going to video the turns with and without the jump board and see how they really look. I know both dogs' turns need some work, so hopefully we can do that in the mean time.
