We competed in the FRAC USDAA trial this past weekend. The first run on Saturday was a rough way to start the weekend. It was a Masters/PIII Standard course with a few tricky sequences. There were only 3 qualifiers out of 60 runs! The course included a wicked weave pole entry that only a few dogs got on their first try. Mariah did well up to the weaves, but she missed it as well (I think I overhandled it). After standard, we got to have fun with Gambers. It was a pretty simple gamble (for my pups). Mariah decided to make up her own course in the opening, but finished the gamble successfully. We got lucky and had just enough points for a Q! Brisco had a great opening and did great on the gamble, but he knocked the last bar, so no Q. Steeplechase and Grand Prix didn't get us any Q's, but Brisco had some really nice lines on some of the tougher areas.
Sunday started out well with Q's for both dogs in Snooker. I had originally planned an opening with two 7's and a 6, but changed my mind once I saw dogs attempting my same plan and having issues with the wet A-frame. The approach to the A-frame was too much of an angle and a few dogs fell right off the side. I changed my plan to two 6's and a 7. The new plan ran really well and was a lot of fun! Mariah got the two 6's and the 7 and had a nice closing for a total of 49 pts. Unfortunately, Kelli and Hoosier got all three 7's, so we missed out on the Super Q by 2 pts. Brisco got the two 6's, but knocked a bar on the 7. He had a nice closing and finished with 42 pts. To my surprise, his 42 pts was enough for 4th place and a Super Q!!! There was another tough weave pole entrance in the close, but if you went around one of the opening red jumps, you could set a nice line to the weaves. It took about a second or two longer to get that path, but all the dogs that took that path, were successful in the weaves. Many people tried the straight shot to the weaves and ended up getting whistled off. So - this was Brisco's 2nd Masters Snooker Q and his first Super Q!
The rest of the day was a lot of fun as well. The weather stayed cool and the dogs loved it. Brisco had a great Masters Standard run, but knocked one bar when I opened my mouth and called him while he was mid-air. We managed to keep the triple up and got the correct end of the tunnel towards the end. I thought we'd have trouble there, but I guess our triple jump practice the week before paid off.
Overall we had a fun weekend. Mariah ended the weekend with Q's in PIII Gamblers, Pairs, Snooker, Jumpers and a second place finish in the Performance Speed Jumping finals. Brisco didn't get many Q's, but he got a Super Q!
No flyball or agility for a month now, so the pups get to relax and have fun in the mountains. No videos from the weekend, but hopefully we'll get pictures from Ken and Kelli.
