Our May NADAC trail has come and gone and I think it went really well! We were blessed to have pretty good weather all weekend. Friday and Saturday were rather cool with a little drizzle here and there. The dogs loved the cool air and there was more than one crazy run Friday night. Sunday the clouds cleared up and we had a beautiful day! Some of us forgot about sunscreen and have a nice glow this week.
Amherst Park worked out really well for the trial. We had plenty of room and it was fun to have our neighbors stop by with their kids to watch. It also made it really easy on us for set up and tear down. We were able to take equipment home throughout the weekend which made the final tear down much easier. As far as I know, we did everything right and made sure to finish the weekend with a cleaner park than we started with. The city is using our trial as a test to see if they should allow any other dog events in the future. The only thing that has me slightly worried is the bike cop that stopped by on Sun. He gave out 4 warnings for off-leash dogs, wrote down a few notes and took a couple pictures. He said the warnings were no big deal, and I hope he's right! We'd love to be able to use the park again in the future.
Now how did Mariah, Brisco and Taylor do? Let's start with Mariah... as I mentioned above, the weather had the dogs feeling very frisky. Mariah was a goofball Friday night and decided to make her own course on 2 of the runs. The rest of the weekend I had my normal reliable dog back and she ended the weekend with 7 Q's. No Chances Q's, but oh well... next time. Here is a video of one of her regular runs. I had a poorly timed front cross, but the run was clean.
Brisco did ok for the weekend. He didn't end with too many Q's, but had a lot of very nice runs. He missed a chances Q by knocking one bar, missed a bonus Q regular run by 2 knocked bars and we almost had a bonus Q in tunnelers, but missed the last redirect before the last stretch. He did manage to pick up a regular Q, a chances Q and a weavers Q. The weavers Q earned him his Superior Elite Weavers title! Here is the video of his weavers run. We had one small bobble, but I was very happy with his speed in the weaves.
Now onto Taylor... Taylor is my parents dog and the only time she does agility is at my trials. She's had some foundation, but she spends more time in the mountains than she does training for agility, so we just go out and have fun. I entered Taylor in Touch-N-Go for the first time ever. In her first run she missed the dog walk contact, but in round 2, she did much better and got her first touch-n-go Q! Her other Q was in Chances on Sunday.
Overall it was a fun weekend! Our July trial opens May 18th.
Now to switch gears and start working on a few things for the USDAA trial May 9-10!
