We held our second NADAC trial of 2010 in the park behind our house! It's great that we're allowed to use the park and makes it a bit easier for set-up and tear-down. Everything was planned and ready to go Thursday night when I got an email from the judge saying her flight was cancelled due to snow, so she wouldn't be arriving until 5:15pm on Fri. We had 3 classes scheduled for Friday afternoon starting at 3:30pm, so time to get creative! I contacted NADAC and we were given permission to run the Fri. Hoopers class on Sat, and we were allowed to run the touch-n-go course as a direct reversal saving us time by just re-numbering instead of a compete course build. Travis was in school Friday during set-up, but I had a lot of great competitors come out early to help me with all the equipment! Everything was all set and ready to go, so when the time arrived, I went to pick up the judge and as soon as we got back, we started running dogs. We were able to get both rounds of touch-n-go done before it got dark, so we were happy.
Saturday and Sunday ran really well. Again - all our great volunteers jumped in whenever it was needed. We have the best volunteers at our NADAC trials!!! Travis made sure we had hot water and coffee both days. It was definitely appreciated on Sunday when it was cooler. Speaking of weather, we got really lucky! The weather forcasters were predicting cold and rain all weekend. Luckily they're hardly ever correct! It was cool, but we had quite a bit of sunshine and only a short rain shower on Sunday afternoon. Mariah and a lot of the other dogs loved the cool weather and ran nice and fast!
Some of the highlights from the weekend include Lorrie and Maxx earned their NATCH 6!!! Mariah, Morgan and Gunner were all close to their next NATCHs, but didn't get them this time. Mariah ended the weekend 12 for 15. We had quite a few new people who did an excelent job with their dogs. Even the judge commented on how nice the novice dogs looked.
Trek got to experience his first agility trial. We introduced him to friendly dogs and he was very polite when he greeted them. He got to run around and play with Oreo the boston terrier and Boot Zilla the crazy pit bull puppy. He also got a lot of attention from all the people there and loved every minute of it! He rested really well in his crate and was overall a good boy. We even taught him how to "shake" on Saturday. On Sunday, Mariah actually made an attempt to play with him. I let them run around off-leash and she had fun running fast enough so he couldn't catch her. When he gets bigger, he'll be able to pass her!
Overall, the weekend went really well and I hope people had a good time. Our next trial is July 9-11 out in Golden!
